Back up Mt. Defiance – roughly 11miles and 3,584ft elevation gain.  We took the drone with us to capture the view and to show the peak. Mt. Defiance GoPro+Drone

100 mile hike and Mt. Adams Summit August 23, 2014

No Gravatar

Just go back from hiking 100 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail and getting to the top of Mt. Adams.  Ben and Jack were incredible…they marched up and down the trails, glaciers and mountains as if they were just a walk in the park.  All the scouts did great and we had some wonderful times together and lots of opportunities to learn and grow.

Pretty good for a first attempt – he was even looking behind to check his back-cast!  The last 10mins were great with him shooting the line out really well.

Hiked down off the Heck and into Harlan Camp. The boy made their own shotgun shells which they then shot (video to follow).

Great and quick hike up to Miners’ Camp. Just one photo of the meadow around which all the crews camped. More photos and videos to come once I have to edit the video and process the panoramas.

Super-fast hike of around 11miles from Miners' Camp up to Shaefer's Pass and then Tooth of Tme ridge and down to base camp. We passed many older and slower crews. The photos don't give any sense of the views/scenery.

A great hike down from Bear Canyon to Fish Camp (for a spot of fly fishing on the Rayado River) and then on to Carson Meadows. Had to patch up a scout that had a bad gash on his shin (injury not fully shown) suffice to say he ended up having 7 stiches from a medic at midnight.

The boys wanted to repeat their Iron Scout biking trip on the Iron Horse Trail…and we had our first encounter with a bear when Ben, leading us, nearly ended up with a 200lb black bear sitting on his handlebars.

OK, the bear is very difficult to see but you can just about make it out.  Ben nearly runs it down on the trail but brakes about 30ft short.  You will probably need to watch this several times to see the black smudge move up the left-hand-side of the bank in front of…
