We motored down to Blake Island and then sailed back to Seattle.  While on Blake we moored off the west side and fished before having lunch on the boat.

Up on the beach early and immediately encountered this enormous turtle swimming along parallel to the shore.

7.30am Snoqualmie river between Fall City and the Snoqualmie Falls.  Someone else fishing in the far distance. Foul-hooked a salmon which took some time to realize it had been snagged and then eventually took off down-stream. Stripped all the line off the reel and then broke the tippet.

Maui Day 6–the road to Hana

We drove to Hana and hiked along the Waianapanapa State Park coastline.  Apparently the way to Hana has circa 700 hair-pin bends…

We went for a super hike today with the boys.  The round-trip took us about 4 hours.  I think the GPS was getting a bit confused towards the end as we stayed on the same track all the time.

The boys completed 6.75 miles in somewhat grey and damp conditions with roughly half of their Tenderfoot outing troop carrying loaded packs. The hike itself was deliberately simple (an ‘out and back’ going east from Rattlesnake lake and little elevation gain). This was chosen to help the boys get used…

We started out with approx 4 mile hike along the Hoapili Trail (close to Keoneolo).  The trail follows the coast and is made up of black volcanic rocks speckled with bleached white coral.  From the trail there is a dramatic oceanscape and wonderful views of Haleakala volcano.  We stopped off for a geocache (see photo).  Later on we went back to the beach for a spot of boogie boarding in the surf.
